Terms of Service

Please review these terms and disclaimers before using AuthG or downloading its software binaries.

1. License & Permitted Use

AuthG is free and open-source software licensed under the MIT License. You are permitted to download, install, inspect, modify, fork, and distribute AuthG for personal, educational, or commercial purposes free of charge, subject to the conditions of the MIT License:

2. No Cloud Recovery & Backup Responsibility

AuthG keeps everything on your computer and has no accounts or servers, so:

  • No Recovery: We never have your secrets or keys. If you lose your computer, or your system keystore (for example the macOS login Keychain) is reset, the vault cannot be unlocked by anyone. Keep an offline backup.
  • Backup Responsibility: You are solely responsible for maintaining offline backups of your two-factor authentication recovery codes and secret seeds.
  • Unencrypted Export Risks: If you use AuthG's export functionality to produce a plaintext JSON file, you acknowledge that this file contains unencrypted two-factor authentication secrets and that you assume full responsibility for safeguarding or securely deleting that export file.

3. Trademark & Non-Affiliation Notice

"Google Authenticator" and "Google" are registered trademarks of Google LLC.

AuthG is an independent, community-developed desktop client capable of importing standard RFC 6238 TOTP tokens and Google Authenticator export QR codes. AuthG is not an official Google product, and is neither sponsored, authorized, endorsed, nor supported by Google LLC or Alphabet Inc.

4. Disclaimer of Warranties ("As Is")

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS, COPYRIGHT HOLDERS, OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
