First-Time Setup Guide
Quick instructions to open AuthG, find it on your screen, and sync your codes.
Open the App on Your Mac
Drag AuthG from the DMG into your Applications folder. macOS may show a security notice on first launch because AuthG is currently distributed as an independent open-source release without an Apple Developer ID certificate.
- Open AuthG once from your Applications folder (macOS will show a security prompt).
- Open System Settings on your Mac.
- Go to Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the Security section.
- Click Open Anyway next to the AuthG notice.
- Confirm that you want to open AuthG (enter your Mac password or Touch ID if prompted).
Find AuthG in Your Menu Bar
AuthG lives in your menu bar, not the Dock. It opens under its icon and closes when you click elsewhere:
Import Your 2FA Codes
Open Google Authenticator on your phone → tap your profile or menu (top right) → choose Transfer accounts → Export accounts.
Take a screenshot or AirDrop the QR code to your computer, then simply press ⌘V anywhere inside AuthG.
Click the + button to scan the QR code with your webcam, upload an image file, or manually enter secret keys. Your codes are saved instantly.
